Yesterday morning I attended a meeting in King Williams Town about the upcoming Gender Based Violence Conference. The meeting was at the office of Eastern Cape Social Development and Special Programs. This was one of the most beautiful offices I have ever seen! I snapped some quick pictures to share.

11 Things
Before I ever showered (lucky you) Also, yes my room is that messy. Sorry Mom. |
1. I went for my first run in South Africa yesterday! For those of you who don’t know me, running is one of my biggest hobbies. I have run two 10 k’s and I was hoping to train for a half-marathon this past spring but an illness put a stop to my training. Finally feeling a bit better from my chest infection (more on that later) I decided to get out for a run. Was it short? Yes. Was is slow? Yes. But getting out for that run gave me time to reflect on my time here and I was incredibly proud of myself!
2. I have decided I am going to start posting recipes on this blog! I think it will be fun for everyone to see what kind of crazy kitchen adventures Ryan, Amelia and I have on a daily basis here. I am sure you will al learn about the different kind of food there is here... as well as our poor kitchen skills.
Sexual Orientation Dialogue
Hello!
This is my first work related post and I can't tell you all how excited I am to tell you about it! I have actually been thinking about what I wanted to say all weekend... seriously.
Last Wednesday I went to a dialogue about sexual orientation put on by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC). When Winnie told me I would be able to attend this I was over-the-moon excited. In my undergrad I took a few women's studies classes and was always very interested in the area of sexual orientation. In fact, one of the first questions I asked Winnie when we met was about the attitude towards the LGBTI community was in South Africa.I was very excited to learn about this community in greater detail.
